There is a huge range of frame and mount types to choose from.

Colour can be added either by adding a colourful mount, in either solo or double mounting, or choosing a coloured frame.

The mount, as well as adding an attractive aesthetic to the artwork, also helps to protect the artwork from the glass. Glass should never rest directly onto artwork. It can damage this, especially photographs and posters, by fading or adhering directly to the photo. There are other options should a mount not be suitable or desired.

Once the artwork has a mount, or alternative, its time to choose the frame:

The frame should always compliment the artwork and Not draw attention away from the main image. If you see the frame first, then it’s the wrong frame. The frame is there to protect, but to also draw the eye towards the centre. Unless a feature frame is what you are looking for?

Its always a good idea to know where you plan to hang the picture. Space and position are important to how the image should be framed. I’d always recommend framing for the artwork, not the room, however every piece and taste is different.

Glass comes in two types:

Standard: This is 2mm float glass and is safe for 90% of framing types. The price of this is included with your quote for completion.

Art Glass: this is also 2mm float, however it has a coating which offers both non-reflective and UV filter. The price for this is slightly higher, although if you are looking to frame an original or precious peace of work, it is worth it.

Depending how precious the artwork is, and where it is to be hung, this can affect the type of glass to be recommended. The glass can protect the artwork as well as make it look awesome.

And not to be forgotten is the mounting process. Not all artwork requires a mount, but if the picture is to have glass, then a mount is recommended. At no point should the artwork rest against the glass.

It is true that anything can be framed, whether sentimental or novelty, framing does and will protect it for you. Also, I try not to use damaging glues and tapes. If its embroidery or canvas, photos or paintings, everything is safe and undamaged. It can be taken apart and re-framed in a different style at any time in the future. Tastes do change.
